The Government of India developed the Ministry of Human Resource Development with the initiation of introducing the National Policy on Education. The Ministry of Human Resource Development is divided into two departments: The Department of School Education and Literacy, which deals with elementary, middle, and high school education, and the Department of Higher Education, which handles college-level education, technical training, scholarships, and other matters.
Now the Ministry of Human Resource Development announced another scholarship for the academic year 2023 named as MHRD Scholarship. About MHRD Scholarship
The MHRD Scholarship is launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development for students who are financially weak but want to pursue their dreams. This scholarship will offer you a national and international level of scholarship. This means, that if you want to do studies from your own country then the department of MHRD, will be responsible for all the processes and for opting the international studies then the government of that particular country from where you want to study, will be responsible for the further process.
- The countries where students visit for studies are Italy, Sri Lanka, Mexico, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, China, Israel, Mexico, and South Korea. For selection under the scholarship, students must submit the required documents and after selection, they will receive an amount benefit for their educational expenses in the form of a scholarship.

The objective of MHRD Scholarship 2024
The goal of the MHRD Organization is to offer scholarship programmes for students who want to study at the national and international levels. There are around 18 scholarships available which are covered under 2 departments: The Department of School Education and Literacy & Department of Higher Education. The scholarships will offer some amount of benefit which will be used by the selected students to fulfil their educational expenses. The scholarships will mainly focus on the students who belong to the economically weaker section of our society.
MHRD Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply for the various categories under the MHRD Scholarship, the candidate must meet the requirements listed below:-

Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students | Students who are enrolled in a standard engineering or medical course at a college that has received recognition from AICTE, DCI, or MCI are eligible for the award. The kids must rank higher than the 80th percentile of graduates in the pertinent stream in class 12. The family’s combined annual income shouldn’t be greater than INR 8 lakh. The student must not be receiving any other scholarships is very crucial. Students who are enrolled in distance learning or by correspondence are not eligible to apply. |
Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) for Jammu Kashmir | Students with Jammu and Kashmir residency are eligible for the scholarship. A 12th-grade diploma or a 10+3 diploma from the J&K Board, CBSE, or J&K State Polytechnic is required of the students. Those who want to further their education outside of J&K may also apply. The family should make no more than INR 8 lakh per year. |
National Means Cum Merit Scholarship | The award is available to ninth-graders who plan to continue their education in classes ten through twelve. The class 8th exam has a minimum percentage requirement of 55% or equivalent (with a 5% relaxation for SC/ST). The candidates must have earned at least 55% of the possible points in class 7 in order to be eligible to take the scholarship selection test. The household should make less than INR 1.50 lakh annually. |
AICTE Pragati Scholarship for Girls | Girls who have applied for admission to the first year of a diploma or degree programme at an AICTE-recognized institution are eligible for this award. The family’s combined annual income must be less than INR 8 lakh. The family’s scholarship is available for up to two girl offspring. |
AICTE-Saksham Scholarship Scheme | The scholarship is available to students with disabilities who have been admitted to the first year of a technical degree or diploma programme at an AICTE-recognized institution and who have a disability level of at least 40%. The family’s combined annual income must be less than INR 8 lakh. |
New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships | Students that are willing to study abroad in New Zealand are eligible for the scholarship. A bachelor’s or master’s degree with a minimum GPA of 65% is required for the applicant. |
Mexican Government Scholarships | Specialisation, master’s, doctoral, and graduate-level research are all eligible for the scholarship. A bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree must be held by the applicant, and they must have a GPA of at least 80 on a scale of 1 to 100. Also, the students must be registered in a course at one of the participating institutions. |
Presidential Scholarships, Sri Lanka | The award is open to students studying bachelor’s degree programmes (It does not cover Engineering, Dentistry and Medicine). The applicant must be younger than 25 years old. |
National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education (NSIGSE) | The award is available to female SC/ST students who are enrolled in 9th grade. The applicants must have passed the class 8 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya examination in order to apply. They must also enrol in a state government, local organisation, or government-aided school for class nine. Only young, single ladies under the age of 16 may apply. |
Brazilian Government Scholarships | Indian citizens between the ages of 18 and 25 are eligible for this MHRD award. The candidates must have obtained at least a 60% overall and English score on their class 12 board test. The current class 12 students are also eligible to apply, but they must submit their final grade report and board certificate while enrolling in a Brazilian university. Portuguese language proficiency is also necessary. |
