About Prime Minister Research Fellowship
The students who are interested in appearing for Phd program from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Institutes of Science Education & Research (IISERs), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and Central Universities to conduct research in the fields of science and technology with a focus on national priorities. This Prime Minister Research Fellowship 2024 has been started by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. Interested scholars may apply for the fellowship through two channels called Direct Entry Channel and Lateral Entry Channel.
- Students who fulfill all the eligibility criteria required for the fellowship will be selected by the committee members and will take admitted to Ph.D. courses under IISc/IISERs/IITs/NITs/Central Universities.

Objective of Prime Minister Research Fellowship
The main goal of Prime Minister Research Fellowship 2024 is to financially support talented students toward a Ph.D. in the science and technology area for performing research work for the improvement and development of the country. Students who clear all the eligibility criteria will be able to receive financial assistance for the duration of their Ph.D. program without the worry of arranging money to pay the fees. Eligibility Criteria for Prime Minister Research Fellowship
Direct Entry Channel
- Applicants must be enrolled in the last year of their bachelor’s or master’s degree program or completed their course in the field of Science or Technology with an 8.0CGPA to 10 CGPA from the IISc/IISERs/IITs/NITs/Central Universities.
- Students can also apply if they enrolled in the last year of their bachelor’s or master’s degree program or completed their course in the field of Science or Technology with an 8.0 CGPA or equivalent from any other Indian-recognized institute and score 650 marks in the GATE exam.
- Candidates who qualified in the GATE exam and enrolled under M.Tech or MS in research area from any PMRF Granting Institutes with 8.0 CGPA or above at the end of the first semester with at least 4 courses.
Lateral Entry Channel
- Applicants should be enrolled in the 1st year Ph.D. program from PMRF Granting Institute.
- Students who applied for the scholarship must complete 12 months in the Ph.D. program after completing the Master’s program.
- Students who applied for the scholarship must complete 24 months in a Ph.D. programme after completing Bachelor’s programme.
- Applicants must complete the Ph.D. with at least 4 courses by scoring an 8.0 CGPA or above on a 10-point scale.
- A lateral entry channel will only consider a candidate for the fellowship once in total.
