Hindustan Unilever Limited has taken a great initiative of encouraging women to pursue doctoral programs in STEM courses to create an environment for all the other women to showcase their talent. The Hindustan Unilever Limited in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) introduced the STEM Fellowship for Women. Under this STEM Fellowship for Women, financial support, mentorship, guidance, or other facilities will be given to continue their 5-year Ph.D. course in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
In this generation the no. of women working as scientists is much less compared to men. Over every female scientist, there are 6 males. The motive of the STEM Fellowship for Women is to establish gender equality in all sectors.
Overview of STEM Fellowship for Women
The STEM Fellowship for Women is an initiative to support women in pursuing Ph.D. in STEM Courses. Under the STEM Fellowship for Women, the Fellows have an opportunity to interact with HUL scientists regularly while they continue to work on their research proposals at IISc.The women who got selected for the Fellowship for Women will get financial assistance equivalent to the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship which will cover their 5 year PhD expenses. Beyond this, the fellows will also get research grants, travel expenses, and international expenses for attending conferences related to their research work. During the inauguration of the STEM Fellowship for Women, the HUL awarded 5 female scientists from the Begaluru-based institute.

The main motive of the STEM Fellowship for Women is to establish gender equality in all sectors for women. The women who want to pursue PhD in STEM courses can get financial assistance throughout their 5-year course. This will encourage many talented women to fulfill their passion and make their family or India proud. There are very few female scientists in our country as compared to others. - Candidate must be a permanent resident of India.
