Senior Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti Scholarship 2024: Apply Online and Eligibility Criteria

Senior Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti Scholarship 2024 was started by the Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) to support girl students in STEM fields. This scholarship has been financially supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of West Bengal. The girl students need to qualify JBNSTS Senior Talent Science Test to be eligible for availing the benefits of scholarships to pursue science in higher education. This scholarship test will be held in 3 phases: the 1st phase contains a written test, the 2nd phase has an interview and the scientific creative test will be held in the 3rd or last phase.

The selected girl student will receive INR 4,000 per month or INR 5,000 per annum as a book grant for a duration of 4 to 5 years till the completion of B.Tech / BE / MBBS / BS-MS / M.Sc, etc. All interested girl students must apply under this scholarship scheme to avail the benefits.

The Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search started the Senior Scholarship scheme was launched in 1958 with the simple aim of offering financial assistance, but as time passed the motive shifted into encouraging students towards Science and identifying the educational needs of the creative or talented students. It has been seen that women always stay back in the STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) due to inequality, backward family thoughts, lack of access, or other specific reasons. To create equality among boys and girls the Senior Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti Scholarship 2023 has been launched to promote girls’ education in the field of science in higher education.

Many girls do not opt for science during their undergraduate courses. India’s high school standards show a significant disparity between girls and boys studying science. This hurts gender equality in academia and the STEM workforce.

About Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS)

The Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) has been supported by the Government of West Bengal and the Governing Body with representatives from the State Government, Academics, and Industry. JBNSTS  was started in 1958, at that time it was initially seen as a scholarship scheme for granting scholarships to talented students. After some time JBNSTS has changed its pattern of only distributing scholarships.

• It has developed into a cutting-edge hub for identifying and nurturing young talented students in the STEM field who will eventually become leaders in their respective fields. JBNSTS will encourage students to develop their interest in science and technology. Its activities were restricted to state students at first and were first funded by the West Bengal government.

The main aim of Senior Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti Scholarship 2023 is to bridge the gap between equality among girls and boys to motivate girls to opt for science as their main course in higher education. Many talented and meritorious girl students cannot pursue STEM due to the unavailability of proper facilities, family pressure or financial assistance. Encouraging students towards science will make a visible change in society. The young talented students in the STEM field will eventually become leaders in their respective fields.

Eligibility Criteria

• Applicant must be a permanent resident of India
• Applicants must be girl students.
• Students must pass their higher education exam or equivalent exam in the year of filling out the application form.
• Students must be studying in a B.Sc.(Hons.), Engineering or Medicine in the undergraduate level from any West Bengal-organized institution.
• Students who are enrolled in BSc Pass course/Diploma/BSc nursing are not eligible for this scholarship.
• Students must show proof of their 1st year of UG admission in a West Bengal-recognized institution.

• Senior Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti Scholarship 2024 was started by the Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) to support girl students in STEM fields.
• This scholarship has been financially supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of West Bengal.
• The girl students need to qualify JBNSTS Senior Talent Science Test to be eligible for availing the benefits of scholarships to pursue science in higher education.

• Students will get an opportunity to Participate in Colloquia and Seminars.
• According to DST INSPIRE rules and regulations, a research grant totaling Rs. 80,000 (Rs. 60,000 + Rs. 20,000) is given to JBNSTS Senior Scholars each year till they have completed the basic science master’s program.
• For the scholars, there is a 5,000 rupee annual book grant as well as academic and career counseling.
• Students will get a chance to Travel, and Enrichment Programmes and do Project Work.
